Watermelon
Now before you wonder, if the post title has a hidden deep philosophical interpretation, let me stop you right there and say it doesn't. It is what it reads. Now, I don't remember the first time I had watermelon or the first time I thought it was pure slice of heaven. But I do remember having watermelon cravings right from my childhood - throwing tantrums to get me some watermelon when the craving hit me. And I do remember my parents obliging and caving in. And me cutting open the watermelon and finishing it right there eating from the fruit directly with the knife. Yes that's how crazy I was - am - and in a good guess will be over watermelon.
Oflate am in a phase where am going more gaga than usual about watermelon. And it got me to thinking that watermelon gives a special kind of joy. A joy very different from eating say a mango or a spicy dish or a biryani. Watermelon gives a very pure sort of joy that isn't heavy on your stomach or senses yet being sweet, juicy and light. The taste takes you away from your current surroundings and transports you to a zen state where all you know is the sweet and light sensation of the watermelon. I think watermelon is one of the best kind of fruits we got and we need to be happier for having it among us and more so for being so affordable.
Thank the nature for creating such a beauty and the original discoverers for identifying, protecting and cultivating it so we all can enjoy it without realising. Amen!
While I’ve never been a big fan of watermelons (I blame the seeds for tarnishing what would have been a beautiful and fulfilling eating experience) I’ve grown to liking watermelons since marriage.
ReplyDeleteAnd it’s quite clear that both Sahasra and the next one seem to enjoy their watermelons!
Long live the watermelons!!
I hope Sahasra never eats watermelons with knives the way you did as a child!!! #ScaryKidGeetha
